THE BRONX (NEW YORK CITY, USA) 2016-2018
COCOON Tracing the Bullet, The Bronx, New York City, a performance-installation by Kate Browne in South Bronx communities facing gun violence.
"In the Bronx I began with a focus on the massive migration caused by the devastating fires in the 1970s when New York City closed far too many of the Bronx firehouses and the Bronx burned. When I began interviewing, what people talked about most was one of the epidemics that followed the fires. That is the gun violence epidemic, where friends, family or themselves had been shot, or shot and killed. While keeping the significance of the fires in the artwork, I decided to follow the epidemic, the path a bullet makes from shots fired to mortician." Kate Browne
